Despite Sunday's threat of rain, the 2009
West Virginia Horse Expo was a great success!
Kicking on the inaugural event was a Ribbon
Cutting ceremony. Cutting the ribbon was WV Dept of Agriculture
Commissioner Gus Douglass and Greenbrier County Commissioner Brad
Tuckwiller.
One of the most impressive
demonstrations was given by Bruce Griffin, who displayed
incredible horsemanship in showing his Friesian stallions in
tandem.
Another crowd pleasing demonstration was the West
Virginia Six Shooters display of Mounted Cowboy Shooting.
They let Brock Griffith try shooting at
the targets while galloping. He hit a few and acknowledged that it wasn't
as easy at it looks!
Some of the best shots were women,
who had fun watching Brock try to hit the targets.
Vendors came to the expo from far and wide. Over seventy vendors
presented their goods and services from feed and tack to training and breeding.
"This has been a fantastic show. I will definitely be back next year!" Jessica Lohman,
Featherlite Dealer
From Appalachian Mini Trucks who took a chance on introducing his product to a different market said
"I have had a better show here than I did at the big Hunting Expo!"
"I
had a great show and it brought me several new clients. I plan on
being here next year" assured Barbara Volk, applied equine
podiatrist.
Winner of the 2009 WV Horse Expo Artists'
Challenge was Deb Little!
Joy Bland, a store owner in West Virginia, won the painting division.
West Virginia is home to many talented artists, and Joy was just one of
many who participated at last year's event.
